Justin Bieber Keeping Kids' Choice Awards Performance A Surprise

Justin Bieber Keeping Kids' Choice Awards Performance A Surprise

'I don't want to tell anyone,' star says of his awards-show song choice.

On Saturday, Justin Bieber will be one of two performers at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards — along with Rihanna, he will be hitting the stage for the annual awards show. And while he just missed the deadline to be nominated for any prizes, he does know that when he gets up there to sing, his fans will be surprised by what they get. Bieber is keeping any performance details under wraps.

"I do know what I'm performing, but I don't want to tell anyone," he teased. "Were both performing, but not together."

Once he finishes his Kids' Choice Awards performance, Bieber is also set to hit another iconic stage when he plays "Saturday Night Live" on April 10, with Tina Fey as host. "I'm really excited. I've watched it all my life," he said. "So it's amazing to be able to perform."

And as if that wasn't reason enough to celebrate, just this week he released his sophomore album, My World 2.0. On it, he has a collaboration with Ludacris, "Baby," and Lil Wayne has also said that he wants to work with the teen star. "I would love to work with him in the future, but nothing so far," he said. Does Bieber really have a swagger coach to thank for being accepted by hip-hop's elite?

"I mean, I just hang out with whoever. I'm also friends with Selena Gomez. I hang out with everyone," he said, adding any rumors of a swagger coach have been greatly exaggerated. "I mean, it's just a joke. It's just something we made up. ... I don't know; I'm just myself."

Are you excited about Justin's performance? Tell us in the comments! And make sure to stick with MTVNews.com on Saturday night for all our Kids' Choice Awards coverage.

'It was very important for me to have one show where I could do an official dedication' to AM, A-Trak says.

MIAMI — On Thursday night, Travis Barker, A-Trak, Lil Jon, Jazzy Jeff and Steve Aoki were some of the guests on hand to honor the late DJ AM at an unannounced tribute show on Thursday night at Miami's LIV nightclub during the Winter Music Conference. MTV News caught up with A-Trak in the wee hours of Friday morning (March 26), after his set at the Fools Gold party at Grand Central.

"At LIV, it was a party for DJ AM — obviously a dedication to him," A-Trak said. "[He was] a dear friend of mine, we miss him a lot. I'm now doing shows with Travis, so it was very important for me, especially knowing how much Travis and AM established a partnership before [AM] passed, to have one show where I could really do an official dedication and a dedicated routine to him — a scratching thing that he particularly liked, and do it in his honor and pass the torch, in a sense."

The lineup of the show — part of the Winter Music Conference — was a tightly guarded secret, though most in attendance suspected that both Barker and Trak, who recently toured as a duo, were part of the bill. And when they hit the stage shortly after midnight, those suspicions were confirmed.

Trak announced that he and Barker were performing "in honor of our fallen friend, DJ AM," and the two launched into their set, which saw the DJ cutting up a song that mentioned AM by name while Barker flailed at his kit. Both men were wearing "Rest in Peace AM" T-shirts, and a video screen behind the stage displayed a collage of images of AM (real name: Adam Goldstein), who was found dead in his New York apartment last August, of an accidental drug overdose in September.

Barker and AM famously teamed together for years — they were the house band at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards — survived a fiery South Carolina plane crash in September 2008. Earlier this year, Barker remembered his friend and colleague by getting an "In Memory Of" tattoo on his thigh.

What's Next For 'The Hills' Cast?

What's Next For 'The Hills' Cast?

From acting to handbag design, 'Hills' stars share their post-show plans.
By Jocelyn Vena

Now that it's been announced that the upcoming season of "The Hills" will be the last, we wonder: What will the cast go on to do after the show ends? After Lauren Conrad's departure she began her own mini-empire that includes a book series, a clothing line and a movie in the works. Whitney Port left the show only to star in her own spin-off, "The City." The fates of the remaining "Hills" stars are up in the air, but they've hinted at possible post-show careers.

Heidi Montag has made it known that she wants to be a pop star and she's also recently made her way into movies, having filmed a cameo for the new Adam Sandler flick "Just Go With It." She also recently tweeted she's back in the designing game. "Designing my FIRST handbag! I am so excited!" she tweeted. "What's your favorite type of bag?"

Her husband Spencer Pratt recently shared that he intends to go back to school to study encryption at the University of Southern California so he can work for American Defense Enterprises in their cyber-security division. He said of his new career path, which is a far cry from his rap career, "I have decided to refocus my energy and devote my full resources to helping America face this and other unprecedented challenges."

Kristin Cavallari has some experience in the acting game, so it seems likely that she would further pursue a career in Hollywood. She's already gushed about how much she enjoys the world of acting. "I love being on set and being in a movie," she said. "I think it's so much fun. I really, really love it."

Audrina Patridge has also dabbled in acting, so she may focus some of her energy on that — but she's also been working with Mark Burnett on a pilot in hopes that it will get picked up once "The Hills" wraps up. As for Brody Jenner, he can always make a stop by "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" to hang out with his TV family. And while Conrad has jokingly said she'd love it if Lo starred in the "L.A. Candy" flick, Bosworth has said that she would like to get into TV presenting in her post-"Hills" life.

What do you want to see happen to the "Hills" crew after the show ends? Tell us in the comments!

"The Hills: Final Season" premieres April 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by "The City" at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Axl Rose Sued By Management Company For Nearly $2 Million

Front Line Management claims Guns N' Roses frontman owes $1.87 million in unpaid fees.

Axl Rose is being sued by a management company that claims the Guns N' Roses frontman owes it nearly $2 million in commissions.

Front Line Management, a Los Angeles-based company founded by legendary personal manager Irving Azoff, filed suit against Rose in L.A. Superior Court on Thursday, seeking $1.87 million in unpaid fees, according to Billboard. Front Line asserts that the company was hired to be Rose's personal manager in 2008 and had an oral agreement with the singer to receive 15 percent of Guns N' Roses' profits.

In the suit, Front Line claims that GN'R made more than $12 million while touring Asia, Canada and South America in support of their long-awaited 2008 album Chinese Democracy.

Rose — who frequently addresses stories about him and his group through his Twitter account (seriously) — has so far remained mum on the suit, instead posting updates on GN'R's South American tour and thanking fans for their support.

An e-mail sent to Rose's publicist seeking comment on the lawsuit was not returned by press time.

In the meantime Guns N' Roses continue to tour South America, and through Twitter Rose recently announced plans to make up a show in Rio de Janeiro that was canceled earlier this month due to rain and wind. The band will also play shows in Central America and Puerto Rico before wrapping the jaunt. Currently, the only other shows on their itinerary are a pair of appearances at summer festivals in Finland and Sweden.

Ryan Ross Says It's 'Us Versus The World' With The Young Veins

Ryan Ross Says It's 'Us Versus The World' With The Young Veins

'If you like it, then you do,' he says of new group's debut album.
By James Montgomery

When MTV News last spoke to Ryan Ross, he was in the process of finding a label to release Take a Vacation, the debut disc from his new band the Young Veins.

He was confident that the hunt for a label would be resolved in a matter of weeks and that, finally, the Veins would have something (a single, a video, a tour) to show for all their hard work. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out that way.

When MTV News spoke to Ross and the Veins at South by Southwest, Vacation still hadn't been released, and their tour was only a few dates old. Yet, to a man — and there are five of them in the band these days — their confidence hadn't waned, and with good reason: After months of searching, they'd finally found a suitable home for their album, which will hit stores on June 8.

"It's coming out on a label called One Haven — it's pretty new. There's only, like, four artists on it now and Butch Walker is one of them," Ross told MTV News. "To be honest, the search for a label was really weird, because some of the labels that you wouldn't expect to care about stuff like radio formats were the ones that did care. They were like, 'Yeah, we love this record, but what are we going to play on the radio?' And I was like, 'You don't have bands on the radio.' "

And the question of format — just where does the Young Veins' crackling, retro-leaning rock fit in the context of today's exceedingly grim radio landscape? — is perhaps the most daunting challenge they face on their road to success. As Ross himself puts it, "I don't know if we fit in at all, actually.

"I don't think there are a lot of bands that sound the way we do, who play the same kind of rock we do," he smiled. "But I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all."

And in statements like that you catch a glimpse of Ross' swagger, the thing that polarizes most fans of his former band, Panic! at the Disco, and has earned him a certain, uh, reputation among those in the industry. It's very much alive in the Young Veins' music too. After all, Vacation gleefully — and some might say, stubbornly — flies in the face of most modern-rock axioms. It clocks in at just a hair under 30 minutes. The songs pop and hiss and are totally free of today's studio sheen. It was made on the fly, on the cheap and practically on the lam. It is very much a labor of love, made for (and by) a very select group of retro-rock fanatics. Ross said that was the most important aspect — he wanted to get his friends together in a house and just make a record they'd all love. He's not worried what Panic! fans — or the record-buying public, for that matter — will think of the tunes. All of that will take care of itself.

"The record's out in early June, and after that, who knows? Some of the kids don't seem to like it, and they don't get it, and that's fine, I understand," he said. "There's definitely a sense of 'us versus the world' with this band. We all sort of see it as we're all in this together. And we're all really happy about the music we're doing, so it's kind of worth it. I don't like to say, 'Hey, we're really good. Check this out.' If you like it, then you do. We're definitely working way harder than we ever have."

Are you excited to hear Ryan's new music? Do you think it will appeal to Panic! fans? Let us know in the comments!

Usher Dicusses Racy Lyrics On 'Lil Freak': 'It Happens'

Singer says latest single was inspired by real-life experiences.
By Shaheem Reid

It's not just lyrics — Usher said that when he sang about asking girls to get him girls on the track "Lil Freak," he wasn't just entertaining. The song was inspired by real life.

"Yeah," he laughed when asked if he gets female friends to scout and bring him other females to engage in group fun. "I mean, I wrote about it," he continued. "It happens in this day and time. Those are the best chicks to be friends with, honestly."

"Hey, girl, I see you like that," he sings on the track. "You gettin' excited/ You rockin' like a pro with it, girl/ By the way, you got right on that/ Picked the chick you wanted/ And now you in the corner kissin' on a girl/ I'm about to have a have a ménage with these here ladies/ Look at those freaks at the bar looking for a star."

The video for "Lil Freak" recently premiered and in the clip, Nicki Minaj, rocks a sexy Cruella de Vil hairstyle — half black, half blond. She helps lure a woman into Usher's underground playground.

"The video is freaky," Nicki told MTV News recently about the six-minute-plus clip. "And it's a great concept, a great story line. It felt just like one of the sequels to 'Saw.' It was dope."

"Lil Freak" along with the singles "Papers" and "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)" are on Usher's upcoming Raymond v. Raymond, in stores March 30.

What do you think about Usher's new music? Are you excited for Raymond v. Raymond? Let us know in the comments!

But really, Woods no longer represents that good guy, wholesome image he once did. Is this really the type of person Nike wants to associate themselves with?

We Take You Inside The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

We Take You Inside The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

'Time stands still when you're in there,' creative director Thierry Coup says of the attraction.
By Terri Schwartz

The attraction at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter that Universal Orlando is most excited about is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a ride they revealed to press and "Harry Potter" fan site webmasters on Wednesday. MTV got a chance to be one of the first inside Hogwarts castle, which is much more than just a pretty and accurate exterior.

Wizarding World creative director Thierry Coup said that just waiting in line for the ride portion of Forbidden Journey was worth the time, and Wednesday's visit explained why. Many of the iconic rooms and areas of Hogwarts castle that have been described in the "Harry Potter" books and seen in the movies have been re-created inside Universal's version of Hogwarts castle.

"It's the most immersive queue ever created," said Alan Gilmore, production consultant for the park and art director for some of the films. "Every moment here is a wonderful moment, really. You just take it all in."

The experience starts at the entrance to Hogwarts, where statues of winged boars like the ones from the film version of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" can be seen. A sign below says, "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," but Gilmore revealed that when the park is opened on June 18, there will be a "magical" effect that will make it seem as though the words "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" will appear etched by wand over the sign.

Guests will enter through the dungeon level of the park, where they will walk through in either the express, singles or regular line. The express line will miss out on the majority of the tour of Hogwarts. The dungeon area is designed with no "walls," to look as though it has been carved out of the mountain. Attendees will walk by the One-Eyed Witch statue and the Mirror of Erised, which Harry Potter sees in "The Sorcerer's Stone."

After passing through the dungeon area, visitors will go outside to the Hogwarts greenhouse, where Professor Sprout's class studies Herbology. Coup and Gilmore said there is still horticulture to be planted before the park opens — but there were "sleeping" mandrake roots in a cage near the entrance back into the castle and there will be a giant vine, like in the films, creeping around the greenhouse.

The entrance back into the castle is what Coup called the "Oxford Corridor," and was basically a re-creation of the many corridors Harry and his friends walk through in the films. There is a statue of the architect of Hogwarts, who is standing with a lion, badger, snake and eagle to represent the four houses. At the end of the corridor is the griffin statue which, in the books and film, provides a magical staircase to Dumbledore's office.

Past the statue are moving paintings, which Universal used special technology to re-create. The first is of Professor Swoopstikes, who is talking about insects to the guests. The next one is of people watching Quidditch, and if visitors watch long enough, Swoopstikes will enter the Quidditch painting. The next room is the portrait room with about 100 paintings, both moving and not, of the founders and major people involved in Hogwarts. The paintings talk to themselves and to the guests, mostly questioning why Muggles are in Hogwarts, with a script designed to avoid repetition.

Finally guests will arrive in Dumbledore's Office, which is their intended destination in the castle according to Forbidden Journey's story line. Express guests will have skipped all the previous rooms and end up in the office after walking from the dungeons through a different portrait gallery.

Gilmore said this room was a more faithful reproduction of the office than in the films — it was something he and the films' production designer, Stuart Craig, always wanted to do. It looks identical to the room in the films, with all the same paraphernalia and knickknacks lying around.

A 3-D projection of Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore greets the guests for their planned lecture from the ghost Professor Bins on the history of Hogwarts — after all, "today" (or every day in the Wizarding World) is the "first" day Muggles are being allowed to tour Hogwarts.

Guests then walk into the Defense Against Dark Arts classroom, with a skeleton of a dragon hanging from the ceiling while a chalkboard with a Dementors and "Expecto Patronum" lesson sits at the front of the room. Harry, Ron and Hermione appear in the back of the classroom from under an invisibility cloak and convince visitors to skip the lecture and go see a Quidditch tournament instead.

Visitors are supposed to meet Hermione in the Room of Requirement, but have to walk past the animated portrait of the Fat Lady and through Gryffindor common room in order to do so. There are three moving paintings in this room: one of a Quidditch player, one of an etiquette teacher and one of a professor who explains in magical terms how the ride portion of Forbidden Journey will work. Here guests who don't wish to ride the attraction but wanted to see the castle can leave if they wish.

The tour ends in the Gryffindor common room, though the Sorting Hat and Room of Requirement are still ahead. It is in the Room of Requirement that guests can get on the ride, described as a "magically enchanted bench," and see various beloved scenes from the series. Universal would not share the details of how this portion would work, instead saying they would prefer to maintain a "magical" element to the ride.

The entire experience of the queue and ride are expected to be around an hour, Coup said, though to him "time stands still when you're in there." He said he always loved the stories and would read the books and show the movies to his son when he was growing up.

"Watching his face when he was watching the movie and realizing we were going to be able to bring this to life ... for me, it was the experience of a lifetime."

Are you excited for the Wizarding World to open? What goodies from the "Harry Potter" world do you want to see in the park? Let us know in the comments!

Nicki Minaj Calls Lil Wayne's Jail Time 'An Emotional Roller Coaster'

Nicki Minaj Calls Lil Wayne's Jail Time 'An Emotional Roller Coaster'

'We wouldn't wish it on any crew in the game,' she says at mtvU Spring Break.
By Jayson Rodriguez

It's been a trying time for the Young Money camp since Lil Wayne began his yearlong prison bid. The rapper's sentencing and subsequent jail stint were delayed numerous times before he finally entered New York's Rikers Island. Nicki Minaj called the experience "confusing."

"His actual time to go in had been changing, up and down," she said during mtvU Spring Break. "So it's been an emotional roller coaster for all of us involved because we never knew when the last text message or that last hug was the actual last text message or hug. It was very, very strange. We wouldn't wish it on any crew in the game."

Lil Wayne took advantage of the additional time he was afforded to shoot more videos — he shot nearly 20 clips leading up to his imprisonment — and to make a guest appearance during Young Jeezy's set on Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 Tour stop in New York. While Wayne is away, his team has pledged to keep the YM torch scorching hot.

Drake vowed to take the lead in Wayne's absence. "I'm gonna do everything I told him I would do, what I said in the song ['Over']: keep us afloat till he gets back," he told MTV News. "You won't even notice he's gone. Promise."

Minaj described the unusual circumstances that led to her, Drake and the rest of the Young Money crew appearing at mtvU Spring Break without Lil Wayne. Last year, Wayne was a part of the festivities, which also included performances by Jim Jones, Asher Roth and Kid Cudi. He brought Drake and Nicki along as guests during his set.

Now, it's their turn to apply the lessons Wayne taught them, Nicki said. "We remember last year being at MTV Spring Break, and Wayne was obviously the headliner," she recalled. "He's so much more than a headliner, he's a person that I look at, and I can't believe this guy is still going, after 20 to 30 minutes in the hot sun. To not have him here, it's like a life lesson for all of us — always work as if we have no one else to depend on — and that's what he teaches us. He did, like, 1,000 videos before he went in, knowing that he had to go to jail. A lot of us wouldn't do that. A lot of us would be curled up on a ball like, 'Oh my God, my life is about to be over.' So shout-out to Lil Wayne. We're honored that he chose each and every one of us, handpicked us. And we love him."

Young Money will appear on the "Sucker Free Countdown" Sunday at noon on MTV2 when Funkmaster Flex will interview the camp.

Whose performance did you like best at Spring Break? What do you think about the lessons Nicki Minaj says she learned from Lil Wayne? Let us know in the comments below!

Rihanna Takes Drum Lessons From Travis Barker Before Tour

Rihanna Takes Drum Lessons From Travis Barker Before Tour

'She jams! Watch out for her,' Barker tweets.
By James Montgomery

Rihanna and Travis Barker
Photo: Travis Barker

Rihanna's European tour doesn't kick off until next month (with a full U.S. jaunt scheduled for the summer), but from the looks of things it's already shaping up to be a can't-miss show.

That's because, in addition to the usual ephemera — Lights! Props! Costumes! — Rih Rih is also expanding her repertoire for the tour by learning how to play the drums. And she's taking lessons from one of the best in the business: noted metronome/masher Travis Barker.

Late Tuesday, Barker's reps sent MTV News a photo of the dynamic duo after a recent practice at the Hollywood Center Studios and the Blink-182 smasher included a note that promised that not only will Rihanna be playing live onstage (no click track here), but that "she's really good."

He later posted even more about the rehearsals on his Twitter account, writing, "She jams! Watch out for her!"

We're inclined to believe him because at this point, Barker has collaborated with practically everyone under the sun, including his current gig with DJ A-Trak, which he unveiled earlier this month with a string of shows at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood.

Rihanna's European tour gets under way April 16 in Antwerp, Belgium, and runs until early June. She's also set to perform at the upcoming Kids' Choice Awards, along with Justin Bieber. There are no firm dates for her U.S. tour, but it is reportedly set to kick off this summer.

Georgia School Allows Gay Teen To Bring Same-Sex Date To Prom!!

Georgia School Allows Gay Teen To Bring Same-Sex Date To Prom!!

6a00d8341c730253ef01310fcff.jpg

We can't get over how brave these kids are!!

Another High School, this time in Cochran, Georgia, has received press for a homosexual student requesting to bring a same-sex date to prom, only this one has a happier ending than in Mississippi!

Derrick Martin asked Bleckley County school officials if could bring his boyfriend to his senior prom, and last week they gave him the official okay!!

Fantastic!!

Martin says:

“I didn’t expect them to say yes. It’s who I am. I have the same rights. It’s my senior prom and I wanted to be able to prove not everyone would cancel prom. At first she said no, Cochran wasn’t ready for it. But then last week, school officials said they have no policy in place against it. It’s standing up for the rights thing, especially after the Mississippi canceled prom. It’s senior prom. It’s pretty big.”

What a sweet kid! Way to make a stand!

And the school officials seemed to have a much more logical perspective on the matter.

Michelle Masters, the school's principal, says:

“You don’t have the right to say no. As a principal, I don’t judge him. I’m taught not to judge. I have to push my own beliefs to the background.”

And the superintendent, Charlotte Pipkin, agrees:

“Students are allowed to bring their date to prom. There’s nothing that says who the date is. I want this to be an enjoyable event, and I don’t want anything to take away from that."

We have to give kudos to everyone involved in giving this kid the opportunity to have the prom EVERYONE deserves!

Hopefully his classmates will treat he and his date with respect and let them enjoy his night!!

Congratulations, Derrick!! We're so proud of you - have a great prom!

Anchorman 2 Put On Hold!

Thanks goodness!

According to star Will Ferrell, the sequel to Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy has been put on hold because it's been too difficult to get the original cast back together.
