Paramore Working On New Songs -- Two Seconds At A Time

Paramore Working On New Songs -- Two Seconds At A Time

Band says ideas for new songs are often born on tour, but usually written at home.

It seems odd to talk about "new" Paramore songs, given that their Brand New Eyes album is just seven months old, but the fact remains that there actually are some new tracks in the works ... albeit very slowly.

"[Frontwoman Hayley Williams] normally needs to rest her voice during show days, so she'll come to soundcheck sometimes and just listen to her in-ear monitors," drummer Zac Farro told MTV News on Saturday at the Bamboozle festival in New Jersey. "The other day, we were just messing around — we have a couple of songs we just play for fun. They're never anything we'll probably use, but we've been playing them for a while. [They're] just random, two-second things."

So while it sounds like those "two-second" things might not amount to much, Farro quickly added, "Actually, 'Decode' and 'I Caught Myself' [Paramore's two songs on the "Twilight" soundtrack] were kind of written that way, so you never really know."

Williams agreed, though she made it clear that the band is still very much focused on playing songs from Brand New Eyes, and said that the majority of writing for the follow-up — whenever it may happen — will take place at home in Franklin, Tennessee.

"We like coming up with new things, but, like Zac says, it's usually at home, at practice," Williams said. "We usually write intros and outros for shows, and that's a good outlet for us, and a way to keep our creative brains rolling and keep our chops up. But, like he said, it's like two seconds and then we're done."

And Paramore will have even more time to work on those two-second outbursts (maybe even extending them to four or five seconds) when they hit the road on the Honda Civic Tour with Tegan and Sara and New Found Glory. The trek kicks off July 23 and already, Williams and company are getting pumped — even if it means they're not going to be home any time soon.

"We all like a bit of everything, musically, and you can usually tell that in our [concert] bills," Williams said. "I think Honda Civic Tour is the most diverse lineup we've ever had. And I'm really psyched about it. I saw Tegan and Sara in Nashville, and they were great. It's going to be a lot of fun!"

Ke$ha On Her Haters: 'F--- The Cynics'

Ke$ha On Her Haters: 'F--- The Cynics'

'Who would you rather hang out with: that cynical dude or me with my laser beams?,' the 'Tik Tok' singer asks.
By James Montgomery

It's been a rather challenging couple of weeks for Ke$ha, the party-pop princess who has — for reasons not entirely clear to her — become the preferred punching bag for certain bloggers.

It all started with her April 17 performance on "Saturday Night Live," a DayGlo-and-laser-beam-enhanced set that was criticized by some as being perhaps the "worst ever" musical moment on the "SNL" set. That only gave more ammo to avowed Ke$ha haters like Perez Hilton, who had previously called her live performances "horrid."

And then there's the blowback from her hit single "Tik Tok" being featured on the opening of Sunday night's episode of "The Simpsons," which baffled some bloggers and had longtime fans of the show getting in touch with their inner Comic Book Guy.

And through it all, Ke$ha has remained quiet. Mostly because she's always made it a point to avoid reading or listening to anything the cynics have had to say about her, although she will admit that all the naysayers are starting to piss her off.

"I actually don't read anything, because I feel like the haters really like to hate out loud, [and] that people who love sometimes love quietly. So I don't really listen or look at anything," she told MTV News at last weekend's Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey. "[But] in general, f--- the cynics. Go be cynical. ... I'm having a good time. Like, who would you rather hang out with: that cynical dude or, like, me with my laser beams?"

And though Hilton has been one of her most outspoken critics, Ke$ha doesn't harbor any ill will toward him. To be honest, she doesn't really have any opinion of the celebrity gossipmonger.

"I don't really know what he thinks, but you've got to live your life," she laughed. "I don't care. I mean, do you care if I like your shirt? I mean, I do like it, but what if I didn't? Would you change it? Probably not. And you shouldn't."

At the end of the day, the thing that matters most to her is continuing the mission she embarked on with the release of her Animal album: to have fun, no matter what her detractors have to say, and no matter how loud they say it.

"One of the main things I wanted to do with this record, in this climate of the planet, right now, is just have 'f----off' fun. I'm not pretentious, I'm not a bitch, I'm just having fun," she laughed. "It's pop music, and hopefully, people that like the music are embracing that mentality, that, like there are things to be taken seriously, but ... me trying to get people to have so much fun, I don't feel like I need to be pretentious about it."

What do you think about Ke$ha's attitude toward the haters? Let us know in the comments!

Bret Michaels' Doctor: 'Bret's Will To Live Is Undeniable'

Doctor says Michaels' condition remains serious, tests will continue.

According to a statement posted late Friday (April 30) on Bret Michaels' official website, the singer is receiving treatment for the brain hemorrhage he suffered last week at the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona — one of the world's top neurological centers and is the home of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. The statement said Michaels' location was not previously revealed "due to the severity of his life-threatening condition, the instantaneous way in which the hemorrhage presented itself and respect for his family."

Dr. Joseph Zabramski, the neurosurgeon who is leading Michaels' treatment team, said in the statement, "There is no doubt that Mr. Michaels' condition is serious. We are treating the subarachnoid hemorrhage, which caused his severe cranial pain. Mr. Michaels will continue to undergo testing considering we have hit a few roadblocks including hyponatremia, severe cranial and back pain suffered from blood drainage, an emergency appendectomy performed a week earlier and a lifelong history of Type 1 Diabetes.

"However, Bret's sheer will to live and fully recover is undeniable," Zabramski continued. "He has an unbelievable fight in him and told me what kept him alive at the moment of the hemorrhage was that he 'did not want his family to wake up and see him lying unconscious in the middle of the floor.' It was a combination of Bret's fight to stay conscious during the hemorrhage and get to the emergency room and the immediate medical attention provided by our staff at Barrow that enabled us to stabilize his condition."

A press conference will be held at 12 p.m. local time Tuesday (May 4) at Barrow to discuss Michaels' treatment and prognosis in detail.

Michaels' sister Michelle told a Nebraska radio station on Wednesday that she'd spoken with her brother recently. "Things are definitely looking up," she said. "He sounded good — as good as you can when your brain's throbbing. He seems very coherent to me and like he knew what he was saying. ... [He] does sound like Bret. Truth be told, I think he'll outlive us all."

A Plea Deal Is Close For Charlie Sheen

A Plea Deal Is Close For Charlie Sheen

cs__opt.jpg

Charlie Sheen's lawyers are currently hard at work with Aspen prosecutors, hammering out a plea bargain. Sources say that a deal is close and that's all because Charlie has expressed interest in returning to Two and a Half Men.

Insiders are saying that Charlie would like to cut a deal with Warner Bros. to be on the hit show for two more years. The problem is, a plea deal must be made by May 19, which is when the CBS fall schedule is announced.

If Charlie's case is still undecided by then, CBS is wary about renewing the series.

Sources say it looks like Charlie will be pleading guilty to only one misdemeanor charge instead of felony charges. And what will the misdemeanor crime be? Breaking ex-wife's Brooke Mueller's eyeglasses.

Um, what? Wasn't he accused of holding a knife to his wife's throat??
